STRESS MANAGEMENT
- Is stress hindering you from being your best?
- Are you drained and are having a difficult time navigating to a stressful environment?
Health Coaches can encourage clients to engage in activities to help to manage stress. Activities such as deep breathing, journaling, practicing gratitude. You are the expert of your body. A health coach can help you with the awareness of triggers, body responses, things that you do that already work for you.
In my personal practice I focus on stress management because a talk Lissa Rankin, MD made a profound impact on me. In her talk she discussed a community that she worked with in San Franciso Bay Area who was a very health conscious community. This community drank green juice, went to chiropractors, ate vegan diets, meditated, had the best of western medicine in the country; yet, they were the sickest people she had ever seen. Chronic stress was one of the causes of their illness. Chronic stress can lower and destroy the body’s natural healing qualities. This example showed that healthy habits are not powerful enough to contend with the negative impact of chronic stress on the body. Stress also has a strong correlation to diabetes. Stress can influence weight gain.

SLEEP & REST
- Are you having problems resting?
- Are you tired even after you wake up from sleep?
- Have you gone to a sleep specialist and you know what to do but you cannot do the treatment plan that you were given to do?
A Health Coach can educate clients about the importance of adequate sleep and rest. They can guide clients to reflect on sleeping patterns. They can educate clients on how to make sleep hygiene adjustments to improve quality of life. These shifts can include overall health and wellness. They can help you with habits to help you develop the discipline to complete treatment plans prescribed.
In my personal practice I emphasize adequate rest because quality rest allows the body’s self-healing ability to activate. I used an awesome chiropractor to alleviate lower back pain. His first question for me was how much sleep I was getting. He asked about my sleep health because he knew that sleep helps to repair the wear and tear that is inflicted on the body on a day basis. In my personal exploration of sleep, I have explored my circadian cycles and I have been able to identify the time of day that I am most productive. Knowing this about my body helps me to plan different things that I need to do.

- Do you attract toxic people?
Health Coaches give clients time to talk about important relationships. They can support clients in strengthening social connections, such as by helping them explore ways to meet new people. Work on forgiveness, Communication skills, and acceptance.
After over 25 years of marriage I have learned along the way one person cannot meet all my needs. My needs change over the years. I have learned that relationships help me thrive and positively influence my health. On my journey I am learning how to respect others, listen, and accept them for who they are. Maintaining healthy relationships can be very challenging but with the right tools and support lasting relationships can be cultivated. I have been hurt in relationships with friends and family. I have had to practice forgiveness and apologizing. I have had to learn how to create healthy boundaries in a way to take care of my self and not build a wall in the relationship. My goal now is to build bridges and not walls. In the past I attracted toxic people because I had similar traits, now I gravitate to a healthier people because I embrace healing in my life.

In my personal life it is a necessity for me to engage in spiritual practices such as prayer and meditation. These practices are the foundation for everything else in my life. I find that there are things that are out of my control. I have to be able depend on my God to help me through my challenges.
